AGES started as an experiment in the seemingly bottomless pit of digital FM synths.

The sound chip inside the original SEGA Genesis/Mega Drive was a fairly advanced (at the time) FM synthesizer designed by Yamaha, a company that, itself, had invented the FM method of digital sound synthesis just a few years earlier. That chip, the hard-edged, metallic, incredibly versatile (if hard to program) YM2612 was leaps and bounds above its predecessors.

In tribute to one of the original FM synths (and its siblings from around the same time), AGES looks back on the musical sounds of late arcade era, when 16-bit gaming took off, and synthesizers where suddenly no longer covered in patch cable spaghetti, but pixelated screens and clicky buttons instead.

AGES is a nostalgia trip back to the tunes that caught my ear in the late 80s and early 90s. Make sure you blow into the cartridge before you turn the game on.
